Welcome to the "Portal of Wetlands of the French Islands" of PIM.

MedIsWet project
This database is part of the MedIsWet (Mediterranean Islands Wetlands) project's network of Mediterranean island wetland inventories for the implementation of the Resolution for the Conservation of Mediterranean Island Wetlands adopted at the Ramsar Convention in 2015 (Resolution XII.14).

Mediterranean wetlands are seriously threatened by climate change, tourist pressure, pollution, urban development, etc. The MedIsWet project brings together 13 partners from 9 Mediterranean countries (Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Malta, France, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Tunisia) to document, disseminate knowledge and advocate for better protection of island wetlands at regional, national and Mediterranean levels. Aiming to spread knowledge and to achieve a country based and a Pan-Mediterranean island wetland protection, a database have been developed for each country. PIM Initiative is in charge of these actions for Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, in partnership with the Office de l'Environnement de la Corse (Corsica), CCB-University of Cagliari (Sardinia), University of Catania (Sicily). MedIsWet project is funded by MAVA Foundation.
Database
All 9 national Island wetlands databases across the Mediterranean region have the same structure. The "Portal of French Island Wetlands" provides access to detailed information on wetlands on the islands of Corsica and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, both natural and artificial, that we have compiled throughout this project.
The objective of the wetland databases developed under MedIsWet is to concentrate all available information in a database, in order to raise awareness of the importance of wetlands in Mediterranean islands. The primary objective of the project is to contribute to the effective protection, management and conservation of these fragile and highly threatened ecosystems.
